The business need

The main challenge Harvey Nash was facing was one of resource. With only one person managing the talent development for these countries, the business required one central hub to manage training and development easily and efficiently.

This was to be the first time Harvey Nash delivered eLearning in the company’s 30-year history. The Group were reliant on instructor-led training, meaning there were limited training opportunities and long waiting times for courses. They were therefore looking for a Learning Management System (LMS) that would allow them to provide immediately available training at users’ fingertips whenever they need it.

“Redware offered Harvey Nash a functionally rich solution backed by a personal and bespoke service."
"The support received through the implementation stage and afterwards has exceeded our expectations and we were particularly impressed by the ability to keep the individual flair of each of our brands within the one system."

Key requirements

Simplicity was at the heart of Harvey Nash’s functionality requirements.

They needed an LMS that was:

  • Simple
  • Intuitive
  • Cost-effective
  • Easy to get running

Harvey Nash also needed the ability to report on training within the LMS, allowing managers to ensure their employees are fully compliant, reducing the Group’s risk of data breaches and helping the organisation prepare for GDPR by ensuring that training data remains within a secure system.

The Redware approach

Redware worked closely with Harvey Nash to understand their business drivers and priorities before presenting them with empowered LMS. They undertook development work to ensure empowered LMS met Harvey Nash’s requirements, including configuring the system to incorporate Harvey Nash’s organisational structure and provide one LMS capable of managing all 4 brands.

Other developments included the ability to use Single Sign-On and updating all system terminology in line with their business structure to provide an intuitive user experience.

Redware provided a month of ‘hypercare’, an intensive customer support programme, to help Harvey Nash implement the system and ensure potential issues were addressed before the system was rolled out to learners.

“The front end is really good, it’s intuitive, easy and not overcomplicated.”

Larry Ridges, Head of Talent, Harvey Nash Group

The results

In the first month of using empowered LMS, Harvey Nash was already beginning to see results. They realised an immediate cost saving by delivering systems training online rather than using contractors and are seeing the advantages of learners being able to fit their training around their workday.

They are already benefiting from better reporting and are making drastic time savings since moving away from manual reports. For the first time, reports can be run at a global or regional level, providing more control and information to all administrators. The Redware training also brought administrators closer together and helped them develop consistent, unified processes.
